Langue Appart'

Langue Appart’

A language school in the heart of Paris’ 11eme. The client approached me to rebrand their school in order to give them a fresh and more dynamic logo and color palette for the web. In the process, we also decided to re-do the website to make it more mobile friendly and straightforward, which I re-designed working alongside a developer.

Research, Sketch, Concept…

In the initial stages of the project, I sat down with the owner’s of the school to speak about their hopes and desires for the rebranding. Their audience is between the ages of 21-60, a wide array of people, and what they wanted to convey most was the idea of communication, fun, and an elevated experience. This school is special because they also provide extracurricular activities at no extra cost to students, for example l’apero hour, guided tours around Paris, and coffee. This type of fun and hand made element to the logo was also important to the clients. I worked in three buckets as seen below, and at the end of the first meeting they wished for me to combine two concepts.

Round 2 - wash, rinse, repeat

Next round was taking a crack at mixing the two concepts above. We decided that it would be interesting to have the L and the A of Langue Appart’ speak to each other, since this is truly the purpose of this language school. They do not teach to a test, but instead get their student ready to exist and communicate in France.

We have a direction!

It was a unanimous decision to continue working down the path of category four, although the over all note I received was to make it feel more French. (I think my favorite note of all time, haha). So I took to drawing inspo from movie posters to inspire my typographic choices and see how that would affect the icon.

Branding, a visual language…

The next steps were bringing the brand together with a unified body copy as well as a more inviting and brilliant color palette. The mixture of warm and cooler colors harkens back to the energy of the school as well, a mixture of different types of people coming together and sharing their unique perspectives while learning how to converse in a new language.
